Mbappe left PSG this summer to join Real Madrid on a free transfer but the French captain has been in dispute with his old club about unpaid salaries and bonuses.

Specifically, Mbappe has claimed he was not paid wages for April, May and June 2024 along with an ‘ethics bonus’ and a commission for the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has now ruled in favour of the forward following a hearing, according to L’Equipe.

The LFP had, earlier this week, recommended mediation for both parties, however Mbappe rejected this as he felt he was owed the money by PSG and did not want to compromise.

PSG believed they had an oral agreement with Mbappe if he left without a transfer fee – something which the player admitted, however he also felt the team violated the promise by lowering his playing time after he announced his intention to leave.

And the commission has now ordered the Ligue 1 giants to pay Mbappe the full €55m in the next eight days, stating that none of the evidence submitted showed the agreement ‘having become null and void’ or ‘a right of PSG not to pay the salary elements provided for in the contract.’

PSG set to fight ruling over Mbappe payment

PSG have since announced they will dispute the ruling, with the club releasing a statement saying: “Given the limits of the legal scope of the committee to make a complete decision on this case, the case must now be contested before another jurisdiction, to which Paris Saint-Germain will be happy to present all the facts in the months and years to come.”

Mbappe arrived at PSG as a landmark, world record signing, before becoming the highest-paid athlete in world football after initially rejecting Real Madrid in 2022 and signing a new deal in Paris.

But the 25-year-old lost faith with PSG in the final year of his contract and signalled his intention to leave the club on a free transfer – something which infuriated the club’s owners.

Subsequently, Mbappe and PSG were embroiled in a power struggle behind the scenes and the withholding of his salary and bonuses spilled over into a public and legal fallout, which the player appears to have won for now.
