PSG vs OL: Five legendary Ligue 1 matches

Lyon 4-4 PSG: 25th February 2012 (Ligue 1)

A rare draw in this fixture, but one of the most prolific in terms of goals! Back in the 2011-2012 season, Olympique Lyonnais welcomed Paris Saint-Germain to the Stade de Gerland in the 25th round of Ligue 1 and it sure didn’t disappoint. The scoring was opened by Guilaume Hoarau for Les Parisiens before Bafétimbi Gomis, Lisandro Lopez, and Michel Bastos wasted no time in responding, scoring three goals in 6 minutes to regain the lead for the home side. Nenê pulled one back for PSG before halftime, before a flurry of three goals saw both sides cancel each other out.

Lyon 2-1 PSG, 28th February 2016 (Ligue 1)

In a period where PSG dominated Ligue 1, Thomas Tuchel’s side were unbeaten in 36 matches until they faced Lyon in February where Les Gones put an end to the streak via a 2-1 win at home. Maxwell Cornet opened the scoring before Spanish midfielder Sergi Darder doubled the lead with a sumptuous flick over Thiago Silva and a low finish. Lucas Moura scored in the 51st minute but it wasn’t enough as Lyon halted Les Parisiens’ dominant streak.

PSG 4-2 Lyon, 9th February 2020 (Ligue 1)

Les Parisiens were victorious at the Parc des Princes in a match which saw Edinson Cavani score his 199th and last goal in front of the Rouge et Bleu home fans. Angel Di Maria opened with a low finish, before Kylian Mbappé doubled the home side’s lead in the 38th minute. Fernando Marcel’s comedic own goal would make matters worse for OL, who tried to stage a fightback through Martin Terrier and Moussa Dembele – yet Edinson Cavani‘s 80th minute goal would seal the deal as PSG looked to cruise to their 9th Ligue 1 title.

Lyon 2-1 PSG, 21st January 2018 (Ligue 1)

First met second in Ligue 1 as Les Gones repeated their 2016 feat in emphatic fashion. Nabil Fekir scored a free-kick from range to open the scoring for the home side before Layvin Kurzawa‘s equaliser just before half-time. The match would stay level until a rocket from Memphis Depay saw Bruno Génésio’s side take all three points in the 95th minute. Pure drama.

PSG 5-0 Lyon, 7th October 2018 (Ligue 1)

Kylian Mbappé scored a sensational quadruple in 13 minutes as Les Parisiens ran riot as 5-0 winners over OL at the Parc des Princes. Thomas Tuchel’s side opened the scoring through Neymar‘s penalty in the 9th minute, before red cards for Presnel Kimpembe and Tousart would see both sides go down to ten men. Then came Kylian Mbappé‘s record-breaking purple patch, as he scored four goals in 13 minutes to push PSG to a dominant win over Les Gones.
