Leicester City‘s return to the Premier League at the first time of asking was confirmed last night after Leeds were thrashed by QPR.
Goals from Ilias Chair, Lucas Andersen, Lyndon Dykes and Sam Field inflicted a third defeat in five games for Daniel Farke’s side, who now look set to miss out on automatic promotion unless Ipswich fail to capitalise.
‘Congratulations to QPR for a deserved win and to Leicester for promotion,’ said Farke.
‘We lacked the basics from the start – to run, to fight, to win duels and when we woke up, it was too late because we were already 2-0 down. added the Leeds boss, who insisted that his side weren’t choking despite winning just four points from their last five games.
‘We are disappointed. This was our toughest result of the season but we’re on 90 points from 45 games. We have to be critical but I’m far away from (thinking Leeds are choking),’ Farke added.

Only one team in Championship history has reached 90 points and not gone up but Leeds now look destined for the play-offs.
Ipswich are one point behind though have two games in hand, with Kieran McKenna’s side going to Hull City on Saturday night, before travelling to Coventry midweek.
If they win both, a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2002 will be confirmed before the final game of the season. Either way, the Tractor Boys need five points from their last three games to confirm promotion.
At the other end of the table, a deserved victory for QPR secured their own Championship status. From the outset, Marti Cifuentes’s side outplayed Leeds, scoring twice in the first 22 minutes before Dykes and Field headed in goals after the break as Leeds fell to their heaviest defeat of the season.

‘Target achieved. This was a special night against a very good team‘ said Cifuentes. ‘Maybe I thought I was crazy in thinking we could do The Great Escape but we did it,’ he added.
The Hoops were six points adrift of safety with eight points from their first 14 games when the Spaniard took over in October. No wonder the banner passed around Loftus Road pre-game read ‘In Cifuentes we trust.’
