The Italian Players’ Association has come out in support of Milan midfielder Adrien Rabiot after he was criticised by the Lega Serie A. ‘He has a right to express himself.’
The row erupted after Rabiot hit out at the decision to move the Serie A match from San Siro to Perth, Australia in February 2026.
With San Siro out of action due to the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, the clubs had to find an alternative venue, and chose somewhere halfway across the globe.
Rabiot comments sparked Lega Serie A row

Rabiot called this decision “completely mad” in an interview, which prompted a stern public rebuke from Lega Serie A President Luigi De Siervo.
“He should have more respect for the money he earns and be more accommodating towards his employer, Milan, who agreed and pushed for this match to be played abroad.”
Now the Italian Players’ Association (AIC) has stepped in to defend Rabiot and his comments.

“A player has a right to express himself,” commented AIC President Umberto Calcagno to news agency ANSA.
“The problem is not represented by the exceptional nature of this match, and the legitimate reflections of an athlete should not be controversially put up against his wages, but rather listened to with a constructive spirit.
“Players have always shown a strong sense of responsibility towards the whole football system, understanding the need to find new revenue streams.
“They also express sincere concern about their health and the quality of the games on offer. With fixtures lists too packed, long trips and insufficient recovery time, these elements all have a negative effect and only by discussing it together can we find solutions that suit everyone’s interests.”
It is not just in Serie A, as players in Spain are also expressing frustration at LaLiga moving the game between Barcelona and Villarreal to Miami, Florida in December 2025.
