Rangers have reportedly agreed to pay €4.5 million to make SK Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani their first signing of the January transfer window.
The Scottish giants added a whopping 14 new players last summer, either on loan or permanently, but they have dipped back into the market in a bid to bolster the first-team squad available to new boss Danny Rohl.
Rangers have opened talks to sign BK Hacken star Silas Anderson, they are interested in former Sunderland midfielder Pierre Ekwah and they are now on the verge of adding Chukwuani to their ranks.
The 22-year-old has spent the past 18 months at Sturm Graz following a €200,000 move from Lyngby BK in 2024 and he is set to become Rangers’ first winter signing, as per multiple reports.
The Daily Record have confirmed that Rangers technical director Dan Purdy has agreed to pay €4.5m plus add-ons for Chukwuani, with Sturm Graz now on the verge of accepting this offer.
Rangers to complete Tochi Chukwuani transfer
Chukwuani is currently waiting for permission to travel to Glasgow to finalise his imminent move to Ibrox, where he will be reunited with his former Nordsjaelland team-mate Mohamed Diomande.
The midfielder has scored four goals and provided three assists in 62 games for Sturm Graz and he played the entire 90 minutes during their 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Europa League earlier this season.
He has typically been deployed on the left of a midfield diamond so far this term and he is expected to compete with the likes of Nicolas Raskin, Thelo Asgaard, Connor Barron and the aforementioned Diomande for a starting berth at Rangers once his move to Ibrox is officially announced.
The imminent arrival of Chukwuani comes amid rumours that summer signing Joe Rothwell may be set to leave the club in January after an underwhelming start to life with the Scottish giants.
