Rangers manager Danny Rohl has made the decision to dip into the transfer market just a matter of weeks after taking the top job at Ibrox.

The new Gers boss has struggled to turnaround a struggling squad he inherited from Russell Martin, suffering defeats in three of the five matches he has overseen thus far.

Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League loss at home to Roma drove home the point that the Glasgow giants are lacking quality throughout their squad, but particularly in a defence that has been prone to gifting away goals all season.

Although the likes of Nasser Djiga, Derek Cornelius, Emmanuel Fernandez, Jayden Meghoma and Max Aarons were all added to a reshaped defence in the summer, these signings have clearly not worked and Rohl will be forced to recruit again come January.

According to Sky Sport Switzerland transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, Rangers are looking to Genk defender Mujaid Sadick to solve their issues and have already made “enquiries” about the player with a view to a move sometime in 2026.

What type of player is Mujaid Sadick?

Sadick is a 25-year-old centre-back who was capped by Spain at youth level. He has been a regular for Genk this season and even played at Ibrox as his side claimed a 1-0 win over Rangers on matchday one of the Europa League. Indeed, he has been a virtual ever present for his side across all competitions this season.

A ball-playing defender who can also operate on the right, he would not come cheap. Sadick has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €9.1 million.

While there’s been no indication of what Rangers’ transfer budget might be come January, this would likely represent a huge portion of it after nearly €30m was spent in the summer.

Given the failure of any of the summer arrivals, with the exception of Djeidi Gassama, to make a positive impact at Ibrox, it’s clear another sizeable investment is required to get the Gers back challenging for the Premiership title.

Rohl, therefore, has a rebuilding job on his hands, with Sadick potentially the first piece in this puzzle.
