RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is expected to secure a €100 million transfer this summer, just two years after Rangers opted against signing him following a trial period at the club.

The Ivory Coast winger, who is currently competing at the Africa Cup of Nations, has emerged as one of the most sought-after youngsters in world football over the past few months and he is wanted by a number of top European clubs.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all keeping close tabs on the 19-year-old, while Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with significant interest in the teenager.

He has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 16 matches since arriving at RB Leipzig from Leganes for €20m in July, and The Athletic’s David Ornstein has confirmed that a fee of €100m may be required to land Diomande this summer.

The Bundesliga side have no intention of allowing the Ivory Coast international to depart during the January transfer window and it will take a mega offer for them to consider a summer sale given Diomande still has four-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract.

As a result, Rangers will no doubt be ruing their failure to secure Diomande’s signature in 2023.

Rangers rue Yan Diomande error

Back in September, Diomande confirmed that he wanted to join Rangers following a trial period at the club. The Ivorian told reporters (via The Daily Record): “I was scouted at an international tournament. To prepare for a professional career in Europe, I transferred to an academy in Florida.

“Two years later, I was on trial at Glasgow Rangers. It’s not true that I didn’t want to sign for them – my agent at the time demanded too much money.

“After that, I went to Olympiacos on trial, but that didn’t work out either. Eventually, I went to Spain and signed a contract with Leganes.

“I was alone when I went on those trials, but I’m grateful for those experiences. They helped me understand that I can make it through life on my own if I have to.”
