Rangers share ‘concern, anger and frustration’ of supporters as Europa League visit to Porto turns sour

Rangers say they share the ‘concern, anger and frustration’ of their supporters for the way they were treated at Porto’s stadium during Thursday night’s Europa League defeat.

The Ibrox club will now investigate the complaints, with reports suggesting visiting fans were held inside Estadio do Dragao for up to two hours after the 3-1 defeat.

A Rangers statement read: ‘Following the match in Porto, we’ve received multiple reports from supporters and staff about issues in and around the stadium.

‘That’s not what anyone who travelled to support Rangers should have had to deal with, and we share the concern, anger and frustration felt by those affected.

‘We will be gathering complaints and feedback and will pursue this with the relevant parties.’

Meanwhile, Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez insists the Ibrox club can’t allow Europa League disappointment to waylay their domestic ambitions.

The defeat to Porto — in which the defender scored an own goal — left Danny Rohl’s already-eliminated side with just four points from 24 and their first defeat in nine games in all competitions.

They travel to Hibs on Premiership duty tomorrow, looking to keep the pressure on leaders Hearts who are four points ahead, while there is a Scottish Cup tie against Queen’s Park looming.

Fernandez, 24, who signed from Peterborough last July, said: ‘We came up against good opponents but I still feel we’re a very good side and I still think there’s a lot more to come from us.

‘We move on from this and focus on the league and we have got two competitions, we can still do well.

‘There are 15 (league) games left and we still have more players coming (to) show what they can do.

‘I feel like there’s a lot of quality in this squad, and there’s a lot we can do for the rest of the season.’
