Rangers could make an improved bid for Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi after having their opening offer rejected, according to German media.

The 22-year-old is one of the breakout stars of the current 3. Liga season. Naderi has scored eight goals and provided five assists for Rostock in 17 league appearances this term.

Despite his impressive numbers, it came as a surprise when reports in Germany emerged earlier this week that Rangers were not only trying to sign the striker, but that they had even made a “mega offer” worth a whopping €3 million for him.

That is a hefty sum of money by the standards of the German third tier. To put it into perspective, had Rostock accepted, Naderi would have become the fourth-most-expensive player in the history of the 3. Liga.

However, Hansa did not accept. There is uncertainty as to how the club will proceed should Rangers return with a new bid because, on the one hand, they are battling for promotion and don’t want to lose Naderi. If he keeps playing well, his value will increase even more.

Rostock would accept improved bid

On the other hand, however, the player is keen on the move to Ibrox. According to BILD, it is likely that an improved offer would break Rostock’s resolve. The report claims that it is “conceivable” that Rangers come back with a new bid.

That said, it is unlikely that they are willing to break the bank on him. Naderi has been amazing this season, but he is still a third-division player, and it is unclear how he would handle the step up and the move to a different country.

Head coach Danny Rohl, though, could make that transition easier for him. Both hail from Saxony, with Naderi coming through the Dynamo Dresden academy, while Rohl was born in Zwickau, 90 minutes down the road from the state capital.

Indeed, Rohl is likely the one driving Rangers’ interest in Naderi. However, only time will tell if the Glasgow giants will actually make a fresh bid. Having just turned down a hefty offer for Youssef Chermiti, they may have already decided that there will be no more striker movement this window.
