Austria coach Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that he has been approached by Bayern Munich.

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that he has been approached by Bayern Munich about the possibility of becoming their new head coach.

“Bayern Munich have contacted me and I have informed the ÖFB about this,” the Austria coach told 90minuten.at.

“We have a very trusting relationship. My focus is on the Austrian national team,” he added.

“We are completely focused on the European Championship. I feel very comfortable here. At the moment there’s no reason for me to focus on anything else.”

Asked when there would be reason to think about it, Rangnick replied:

“If Bayern were to say: ‘We want you’. And then I would have to ask myself: ‘Do I really want this?’”

Rangnick went on to stress that it’s not a financial matter for him.

“No, I don’t care about that at all. For me, it’s about other things: Can I make a difference? Can I change something? Is there a chance to build a team and be successful? That’s what drives me. If that doesn’t motivate me anymore, it’s time to retire.”

The former RB Leipzig boss is believed to be Bayern’s preferred candidate to replace outgoing coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Sebastian Hoeness have all ruled themselves out of the running for the job.
