The explanation behind Rasmus Hojlund‘s unusual goal celebration in Manchester United‘s 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt has been revealed as fans hailed the Dane’s brilliant finishes.

Hojlund was the difference-maker in Ruben Amorim celebrating a first victory as United manager as the striker scored twice in the 3-2 win over the travelling Europa League minnows.

The 21-year-old was left on the bench for Amorim’s opening match in charge against Ipswich but was named in the starting line-up in Thursday’s must-win league phase contest, and didn’t disappoint.

Much has been made of Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford with difficult goal droughts combining with a run of injuries to hand Amorim questions over whether he can be United’s mainstay No.9.

However, he went someway to answering those questions with two goals in the comeback win over Bodo/Glimt, with his first strike being one of the best he has scored in a Red Devils shirt.

United were trailing on the stroke of half-time when Noussair Mazraoui brilliantly dribbled past two players on the edge of the opposition box before floating a pinpoint cross into Hojlund’s path.

The young centre forward controlled the ball brilliantly with his favoured left-foot and bended his shot into the bottom corner to level the match and subsequently running off to celebrate wildly.

Hojlund has previously displayed his creativity when celebrating goals and did so again on this occasion by giving a thumbs up, then turning it upside down and running his thumb across his neck in a throat-slitting manner.

Supporters were taken aback by the emotional celebration, but eagle-eyed viewers have spotted the celebration was a recreation of a moment from the new Hollywood blockbuster, Gladiator II.

In the movie, Emperor Geta, played by Joseph Quinn, does the same gesture when deciding whether a gladiator should die in the colosseum or be allowed to live.

Hojlund is clearly a fan of the new movie and United supporters loved seeing their striker show his creativity after scoring his fourth goal of the season.

One fan on X hilariously praised Hojlund’s celebration, stating: ‘Didn’t think there’d be a gladiator I’d fancy more than Paul Mescal but Rasmus Hojlund has proven me wrong.’

Another similarly added: ‘Wait I just realised Hojlund’s celebration was from Gladiator 2. I love him.’

Hojlund’s good form continued as he scored the winner in the 50th minute to complete a stellar outing under Amorim that will have him firmly in the manager’s thoughts ahead of Sunday’s clash against Everton.
