RB Leipzig were hit hard when Assan Ouédraogo sustained a knee injury during a match against Werder Bremen in November.

Since then, the 19-year-old has been steadily working on his recovery, and things are moving in the right direction.

“I work hard every day on my comeback,” Ouédraogo told Sport Bild.

“When I return from injury, I want to pick up exactly where I left off,” added the young midfielder, who has established himself as a key figure in central midfield for Die Roten Bullen since the start of the season.

“The rehab is going really well I have very little pain and can feel myself improving step by step. My goal is to be back for the start in January.”

Reflecting on his rapid rise, Ouédraogo added:

“I just played football, didn’t think too much, and did my thing. Everything happened very quickly. I was close to the team, playing regularly, and felt really comfortable.

“All the harder it was suddenly to just watch as the guys prepared for matches. But this phase also showed me how valuable those moments were and that as a team, we are having a really strong season.”
