Real Madrid reportedly have two alternative right backs on their shortlist if they fail to land Liverpool‘s Trent Alexander-Arnold

The 26-year-old has been an integral component of Liverpool’s success in recent years and has remained a key player for the Reds since Arne Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the hot seat.

However, questions surrounding his future at his boyhood club have only intensified in recent months.

Like team-mates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold’s current deal at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season.

With Dani Carvajal sidelined long-term after rupturing knee ligaments, the England international is Real Madrid’s No 1 target at right back and the move appeals to him as reported by AS

Real Madrid are keen on the England star as he is set to be a free agent in the summer

There is said to be pessimism at Anfield on the defender’s future beyond this season.

However, should Alexander-Arnold commit his long-term future to Liverpool, the Spanish giants could go for Tottenham’s Pedro Porro as an alternative.

Porro has impressed in the Premier League since his move to north London in 2023 and played twice for Spain in the last international break

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong, who has risen to prominence under Xabi Alonso, is also on Real’s shortlist.

Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool contract expires in June 2025 meaning he would be free to begin negotiations in January with clubs in Europe about potentially moving on a free transfer next summer.

However, Reds boss Arne Slot a fortnight ago insisted Real’s interest will not unsettle Alexander-Arnold.

‘I think you underestimate our players,’ said Slot. ‘These players are used to being linked with all the top clubs on a daily basis, if they have contracts or not.

‘If you think they’re disturbed by these interests, then I think you don’t do justice to how strong they are mentally and what they are used to. This is part of our job. I was at Feyenoord last year and they linked me with many clubs and before that and before that. This is part of this world we are living in.

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is also on the Spanish giants’ right back shortlist

‘You just focus on what you have to do. Maybe if you’re 17 or 18 years of age, that could be difficult for you. But Trent has won the Premier League, he has won the Champions League; Virgil and Mo the same. I don’t think that is a problem for them to perform.

‘That’s also what we see at the moment because they’re playing really well – put it that way.’
