Real Madrid’s midweek defeat to Lille in the Champions League is set to lead to a new item on the Burger King menu.

In a bizarre turn of events, Jonathan David’s winning goal against the 15-time European champions will see Burger King introduce a new hamburger onto their menu.

The Canada international slotted home a penalty in first-half stoppage time versus Carlo Ancelotti’s side and despite spending the second-half camped inside Lille’s half, Real Madrid were unable to find an equaliser.

The defeat means Los Blancos are now 17th in the league phase of this season’s Champions League and it’s strangely set to result in a new Burger King item.

Before the game on Wednesday night, Burger King France posted on X: “If Lille beats Real tonight, we promise to launch a Maroilles burger.”

Maroilles is a type of cheese produced in a region of France close to Lille and it looks as though Burger King are set to keep their promise.

After Lille’s win they posted: “Well, we’ll have to do it now. If we can’t even trust Real anymore…”

As a result, a new item is expected on the Burger King menu in the near future.

Eden Hazard trolled by Burger King

This isn’t the first incident involving Real Madrid and Burger King either. In February 2021, the fast food company replied to a tweet asking why Eden Hazard hadn’t trained with his Los Blancos team-mates.

Their reply simply read: “2×1 at Burger King.”

Hazard openly admitted to being overweight when he joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2019, while the Belgian struggled with injury issues during his time in La Liga.

He retired in 2023, having made just 76 appearances for the Spanish giants across a four-year spell.
