Real Madrid are “obsessed” with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Los Blancos are similarly interested in signing Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are desperate to add defensive depth to their ranks in the summer, with Trent earmarked as a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal while talks over a move for Branthwaite have been discussed at the Bernabeu.
FABRIZIO ROMANO TRANSFER UPDATE: Man Utd star’s ‘different direction’ as Real Madrid OBSESSION revealed
Branthwaite, 22, was a player on the list of several major clubs last summer, with Manchester United particularly linked with the Everton ace.
The Red Devils were unwilling to match the Toffees’ asking price for the defender.
Madrid are now interested in a player the Merseyside club are still hoping to sell him for in the region of €85 million (£70m), according to TeamTalk.

Eder Militao has suffered a couple of serious injuries in recent times, while veterans Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are out of contract in 2026, fuelling Madrid’s need to sign a centre-back.
Branthwaite has been discussed as an option internally at the Bernabeu but no official approach has been made to Everton, where Ancelotti had a successful spell as manager.
Under contract until 2027, Toffees boss David Moyes said any club wanting to sign the player will need to “bring a big bag of money”.
Real Madrid obsessed with Trent – Fabrizio Romano
Real Madrid are ready to do everything to sign Branthwaite’s Liverpool neighbour Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabrizio Romano reports.
Speaking on YouTube, he said: “Real Madrid’s obsession is Trent Alexander-Arnold. In January, internally, they started this discussion about Trent. Something like: ‘OK, so we want to go for Trent. He’s number one, two and three on our list.’ Today I can tell you he’s also four and five!
“Real Madrid see Trent Alexander-Arnold as the perfect part of their puzzle. They’re not changing their mind, nothing is changing at Real Madrid: Trent, Trent, Trent.”
Real Madrid will be especially keen on Trent given that contract renewal talks with Jesus Fortea, who was previously called the next Dani Carvajal, has stalled.
