Real Madrid are keeping tabs on both Takefusa Kubo and Miguel Gutierrez as they assess whether to re-sign the pair, according to reports in Spain.

Kubo, 22, left Los Blancos to join Real Sociedad on a permanent deal last summer after spending the previous three campaigns on loan at RCD Mallorca, Getafe and Villarreal.

As for Gutierrez, he was also sold in 2022 after a €4 million fee was agreed with Girona.

As per Marca, Real Madrid have internally discussed the idea of re-signing both Kubo and Gutierrez as they look to add depth to their first-team squad.

Despite the club’s impressive start to the 2023-24 season (they are top of La Liga and their Champions League group), Real Madrid are fairly light in a number of positions, most notably in forward areas.

Kubo would help ease the pressure on the existing forwards, although he is a right winger and Carlo Ancelotti’s current system would mean he would be required to play as a centre-forward.

On the other hand, Gutierrez plays at left-back, which is the same position as Fran Garcia, who re-joined Los Blancos from Rayo Vallecano this summer.

Real Madrid’s problem with Gutierrez pursuit

Real Madrid included a 50% sell-on clause when they offloaded Gutierrez to Girona, meaning they are able to buy him back for half the price of any other club. However, he isn’t particularly keen on a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Gutierrez was asked whether he regretted leaving Real Madrid by Marca and he replied: “No. I was playing in the Primera RFEF with Castilla. Making the jump to La Liga is not easy, and having a lot of game time and playing many games is complicated.

“It couldn’t have turned out better, I have landed on my feet in a place where the team has supported me, a coaching staff that understands my characteristics and style of play, and I try to give them that. It is impossible to regret it and it couldn’t have turned out better.

“I don’t like to talk about the future since in football there are no plans,” he said. “I focus on the day to day, I am happy at Girona, the group is spectacular and I only think about working with this team, having a great year and we have a good squad to achieve it.”

“All the positive messages that arrive are good as long as you take them as motivation for the future. I think we are having a good year and everything that comes along will be a positive addition.”
