Rennes – OM Preview

Both Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille will be looking to chase down the top five in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table as they face off on Sunday afternoon at Roazhon Park. The hosts will be looking to bounce back and return to winning ways after letting a two-goal lead slip against Lille last weekend (2-2). Julien Stephan’s men sit six points behind the fourth and fifth positions in the table with only nine games left of the season – they will have little room for error if they are hoping to clinch a European spot late in the season.

Meanwhile, Olympique de Marseille will also want to return to winning ways after suffering their first defeat under Jean Louis-Gasset in the Europa League against Villarreal and former boss Marcelino (3-1). The experienced Frenchman is however still unbeaten domestically with Les Olympiens. Following a 4-1 and 5-1 thrashing of Montpellier and Clermont, OM made it three consecutive wins in Ligue 1 UberEats. A win against Rennes could firmly put them back in the picture for a top five finish this season.

Gasset says OM are ready for ‘final push’

Marseille manager Jean-Louis Gasset highlighted the importance of Sunday’s clash against Rennes to keep up a positive momentum in the league, as well as its importance just before the international break. “The championship is important. We have to deal with a depleted squad with the hope of a return after the international break. You can’t pick and choose competitions.”

“We’re going to try and make one last effort [before the international break] . The players are tired, but we’ve done everything we can to recover. We’re pulling out all the stops for that final push.”

Rennes vs Marseille likely lineups:

Stade Rennais: Mandanda; Doue, Wooh, Theate, Truffert; Santamaria, Matusiwa; Bourigeaud, Gouiri, Blas; Kalimuendo

Olympique de Marseille: Lopez; Meite, Mbemba, Balerdi, Merlin; Harit, Kondogbia, Veretout; Sarr, Aubameyang, Ndiaye
