After parting ways with Bo Svensson, Union Berlin are on the hunt for a new head coach.

Former Hamburger SV and FC Köln coach Steffen Baumgart has quickly been mentioned as a candidate, but according to Bild, it is ” extremely unlikely” that the 52-year-old will take over.

In general, there doesn’t seem to be a clear frontrunner at the moment.

The German tabloid even goes so far as to say that a return of former Union coach Urs Fischer is “ruled out”, while there is said to be no contact with Markus Gisdol, who Union’s sporting director, Horst Heldt, worked with at FC Köln.

The currently unemployed Pellegrino Matarazzo (most recently at Hoffenheim) and André Breirenreiter (most recently at Huddersfield Town) have also been mentioned in connection with the job.
