When Dortmund loaned a 23-year-old Swedish leftback from the Danish league, nobody thought too much of it originally. Dortmund were in desperate need of squad options for the defense and that’s exactly what Daniel Svensson was supposed to be for Dortmund this season: a rotation player for the squad.

Fast forward 3 months and Svensson has proven his worth to the team by completly taking out the best talent in world football, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, of the game! The Swede has left his mark at BVB in a very short amount of time.

To be exact, Svensson has played 12 games for Dortmund so far. Sky Germany now report, that if Svensson plays 15 games for the club until the end of the loan deal, it would trigger a clause in his contract at Dortmund and turn him into a permanent transfer for die Schwarz-Gelben!

The German club has paid a loan fee of €1.8 million to parentclub FC Nordsjaelland; a permanent transfer would cost BVB €5.5 to €6 million according to German sources. Danish news outlets even talk about a sum of around €8 million.

Either way, Dortmund would have most likely tried to make Svensson a permanent player for them anyway, since he has convinced everybody in the club in a short period of time, that he can be of more than good use for the team.

While Ramy Bensebaini has taken on a more conservative role at BVB, often appearing as the left-sided centre back under Niko Kovac, Svensson has excelled in a more advanced role further up the pitch. He will be a great addition to the German top league in the next few years to come!
