According to Sportitalia, the release clause in the contract of Inter star Denzel Dumfries is as low as €20m right now, rising to €30m by July 15.

La Gazzetta dello Sport noted yesterday that there was a clause in his deal that was valid until mid-July at just €30m, but that isn’t the whole story.

It would seem to be the case that the figure peaks at €30m on the final day of its validity, which is July 15.

At the start of it, that is as low as €20m, an absolute bargain for a player who just turned 29 and is under contract until June 2028.

The figure rises incrementally every five days until reaching €30m, then is no longer valid until the following year.

Despite the presence of this clause, Inter are not concerned about losing Dumfries, because he has not yet received major approaches.

Last season, the Netherlands international made 47 competitive appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

Clubs who had shown an interest in the past at far higher sums than this include Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona.
