New Milan signing Niclas Fullkrug was given rather a rude awakening after his transfer from West Ham, as he reportedly had €500,000 worth of jewellery stolen.

The centre-forward arrived on loan from West Ham United with option to buy at the end of the season and has already made his Serie A debut.

Having just made the transfer, he is currently staying in a hotel, but it seems even that was not enough to keep him safe from thieves targeting football players.

According to Repubblica newspaper, Fullkrug left the hotel for a training session on Wednesday morning, then returned to find the safe had been forced open.

The items stolen were reported to be four luxury watches, said to be worth a total of circa €0.5m.

The German international is working with the authorities to identify potential suspects, and the room was dusted for evidence.

He is just the latest of many professional football players who have been targeted for robberies around Europe in the last few years.
