Bayern Munich pushed to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart over the summer, but although the club agreed personal terms with the player, the deal ultimately fell through as they couldn’t reach an agreement with Stuttgart.
According to Sport Bild, Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß personally drove the pursuit of Woltemade, speaking with the forward multiple times over the summer – a strategy that seemed to work.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also helped advance the transfer, while Max Eberl, who is normally responsible for transfer negotiations as the club’s board member for sport, was largely sidelined in the process.
The efforts of Hoeneß and Dreesen proved in vain, however, and Woltemade instead joined Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth €90 million.
