According to reports in Argentina, Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes will be sold to Boca Juniors after they agreed to activate his release clause.

It would be a return to the club for the player who turns 31 this weekend, as it is where he started his career in their youth academy.

He left in 2014 for Italy with Chievo, then went through Roma, Empoli, Zenit St Petersburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and returned to Roma again in 2023.

His contract with the Giallorossi runs to June 2026, but there is a release clause in the deal worth €3.5m.

TyC Sports and transfer pundit Cesar Luis Merlo are both adamant this evening that Boca Juniors have agreed to pay the release clause and are working on the details.

Paredes is also ready to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club from Buenos Aires.

The midfielder is not thought to be part of the plans for new Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini and the side needs to sell before June 30 to avoid falling foul of Financial Fair Play limitations.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors realised they could not negotiate the terms down and decided to go for the full fee.
