Former Bundesliga star Yunus Malli could potentially be set to return to the German topflight soon.
Popular tabloid Sport BILD reports that Mainz are considering promoting the 33-year-old to Bo Henriksen’s first team.
Malli joined Mainz’s reserves this summer after a year without a club, but previously played 146 games for Mainz between 2011 and 2017.
Furthermore, Malli has performed well with six goals and three assists in 10 games for the regional league team this campaign.
BILD’s report from behind the scenes suggests the midfielder could, with some playing time, occasionally give Nadiem Amiri a rest.
This plan isn’t finalized yet, but Mainz is clearly looking for a way out of its crisis given they sit second-to-last in the standings.
