Manchester United could finally have a taker for Marcus Rashford this month after reports that Barcelona will ‘go all out’ to sign the forward, although financing the transfer could prove complicated.

Rashford and United are keen for a parting of ways, with the club looking to get his wages off the books while the player has openly spoken of his desire to seek a fresh challenge.

While there has been tentative interest in Rashford from a number of European sides, none have been willing to cover the 27-year-old’s wages, however Barcelona have emerged as a genuine candidate for a deal.

Spanish outlet SPORT claim that a loan could be on the cards, with Rashford allegedly willing to sacrifice €2 million of his remaining €3m salary for the season, leaving Barca ready to finance a move if they can raise €6.5m due to La Liga’s wage restrictions.

Barca are already engaged in a war with La Liga over the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, a battle which they appear to be emerging victorious in, at least for now, thus allowing the Catalans the opportunity to look ahead to other deals.

Having activated another ‘financial lever’ by selling the VIP boxes in their new stadium, Barca now need just one of four potential outgoings to manifest in order to activate their plan to sign Rashford this month.

The four players who hold the keys to Rashford’s dream transfer

The most likely departure for Barcelona appears to be Ronald Araujo, who is believed to be in talks with Juventus, having only made his first appearance of the season last week due to injury.

Barca would be open to cashing in on Araujo due to his contract expiring at the end of next season but, should his exit fail to be agreed, Hansi Flick could instead sanction the departure of Eric Garcia, who is said to have offers from Real Sociedad and Girona.

Like Araujo, another player with his deal expiring in 2026 is Frenkie de Jong and, as one of Barca’s highest earners, the club are desperate to get the midfielder off the books despite his importance to the team.

A move for Rashford would push Ansu Fati further down the pecking order, with Barca still keen to sell the forward who has played just 125 minutes of league football this season after seeing his career derailed by injury.

Should one of the four players leave, only then would Barca pursue a deal for Rashford, who is understood to see Spain as his ideal destination, leading to a lowering of his wage demands.
