Fabrizio Romano has revealed the truth behind Christopher Nkunku’s potential Chelsea departure this January.

Nkunku has been widely linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge during the transfer window because of a chronic lack of playing time in the Premier League.

The France international has featured heavily in the Conference League, yet he wants to be playing on the top stage and has had few opportunities to do that with the Blues this season.

One potential link for the versatile forward has been a move back to PSG, where he came through the youth academy.

Football transfer news expert Romano has indicated, however, that such a deal is not possible, with the Ligue 1 leaders not exploring such a possibility.

Taking to X, he said: “No negotiations ongoing or even talks between PSG and Chelsea for Christopher Nkunku.

“There are chances for Nkunku to leave if he asks to play more and explore options… as revealed in December, with top clubs attentive.

“But PSG are looking at different kind of players.”

Nkunku fighting for Chelsea life

Nkunku has struggled to fit into the tactical vision of head coach Enzo Maresca, though the door could be opened to the possibility of more first-team minutes in the weeks ahead due to Chelsea’s packed schedule but also the poor form of the team.

After starting the campaign strongly, the Blues have run into trouble in recent weeks, going four without a win. Prior to this sequence, they had never gone more than two games without tasting victory.

Even if that sequence should end on Saturday, when they host Morecambe in the FA Cup, Nkunku will appreciate that only strong performances in the Premier League will make him a regular under Maresca.
