Revealed: The ‘eye-watering prize money Real Madrid could win at next year’s FIFA Club World Cup’

Football’s finest will meet at next summer’s FIFA Club World Cup and the sheer extent of the prize money available should act as motivation for teams to go all the way.

The expanded tournament now involves 32 teams and is set to take place in the United States between June 15 and July 13 at the end of a long season for the cream of the sport’s crop.

Manchester City are in the tournament because they are the current champions, while Chelsea are there because they are the last English club, other than City, to win the Champions League.

However, the qualification criteria is less than clear cut. Lionel Messi‘s Inter Miami will represent the US along with Seattle Sounders. Both were both knocked out of the MLS play-offs which were eventually won by LA Galaxy.

One team whose qualification was inevitable was Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants making it into the tournament on the back of their Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund in May. 

Now the eye-watering amount of money up for grabs for the sides in the tournament has been revealed and Los Blancos are set to take home more than any other team, AS reports.

The 15-time Champions League winners are in the highest coefficient bracket and are in line to bag £83million if they win the whole thing.

Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit are expected to earn £25m just for qualifying and £29m if they win all their group stage games.

Real Madrid face Neymar’s Al-Hilal, Pachuca of Mexico and Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg in this first round and will be hopeful of progressing. 

Should they make it to the semi-finals, they are believed to be in line for a £50m payday, while a place in the final should earn them £66m. 

It is expected that the major European clubs will be handed a larger share from the pot than other clubs in the competition, which some believe is a move aimed at ensuring that they treat it seriously and play most of their big names amid concerns over player burnout.

Indeed, it was reported this month that both Chelsea and City had been told to expect between £50m and £60m during the tournament. 

Mail Sport also understands that there will also be a form of solidarity fund which will see money paid to the associations from the countries of the 32 clubs who are participating. The Football Association will be one of those to benefit.

The amount handed over could change dependent upon the numbers of sponsors attracted. So far only Hisense, AB InBev and Bank of America are on board. According to reports Fifa are hoping to attract 10 major partners and the DAZN deal will have done them little harm.

The tournament, which starts in mid-June, will be shown free-to-air worldwide by DAZN, which has recorded billions in losses since its launch. There has been talk that money from Saudi Arabia could be used to prop up the streaming platform.

The staggering touted prize money could well be the envy of the rest of the top flight. Many clubs will jet off on their own summer tours overseas where they will be fortunate to make around a quarter of the £25m promised to qualifiers, according to insiders.

The substantial cash injection will also impact heavily on the Premier League’s financial rules – and may lead some rivals to bemoan what they could perceive as an unfair advantage.

City were handed the headline match of the group stage with the Premier League champions drawn to face Juventus during a ceremony earlier this month. Chelsea will be reunited with former defender David Luiz, after Enzo Maresca‘s side were drawn to face Brazilian side Flamengo.

Along with Italian giants, City will face Moroccan side Wydad AC and UAE outfit Al Ain in the group stage. Chelsea will also be up against Mexican side Club Leon and Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
