REVEALED: The striker who tops Arsenal’s ‘WORLD-CLASS’ shortlist

Arsenal’s hunt for a new No.9 has led to Mikel Arteta drawing up what has been described as a “world-class striker targets”, with their “dream target” said to be very likely to leave his current side.

Newcastle hitman Alexander Isak is the player that Arsenal have underlined as their main target, according to TeamTalk, which suggests that the Sweden international is liable to leave St. James’ Park.

Isak, it is stated, is uncertain about the direction Newcastle are currently heading. The Magpies are ninth in the Premier League, with their momentum under Eddie Howe having at least temporarily stalled.

Having had a taste of the Champions League last season, the striker wants back into that competition, which is something that Arsenal, who are now routinely challenging for the biggest honours, will be able to offer him.

A potential sticking point comes with the power that Newcastle have over the striker’s future. His deal expires in 2028, and while they ideally want to broker a new contract, Isak does not appear in position to sign.

Equally, Arsenal face a difficulty in agreeing a transfer fee with the Geordies. Arteta’s outfit will be quoted around €120 million to sign the striker, which was a figure they baulked at last summer when they had the chance to add Victor Osimhem, Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko to their ranks.

Nevertheless, TeamTalk claims there is a “very high” chance of Isak leaving at the end of the season – and there is even the suggestion of a sensation January transfer move.

Isak a world-class performer

Isak has only scored one goal in seven outings for Newcastle this season but has been suffering from a broken toe he sustained in September. He returned to action in last weekend’s 1-0 loss against Brighton, however.

While Newcastle’s asking price is high, Isak also has the valuation of a world-class player, with his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sitting at €70m, making him the ninth most-valuable player in the Premier League.
