Darwin Nunez is officially the worst finisher in Europe’s big five leagues, according to ESPN.

Nunez has a big-chance conversion rate at just 20 per cent, which is lower than any player in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga or Ligue 1.

Nunez has scored 11 goals in 30 Premier League games this season, but these goals have come from a whopping 55 big chances.

The Uruguayan has often split the critics during his time at Liverpool.

Some have praised the 24-year-old for his workrate, movement and ability to “cause chaos” and make things happen.

However, others have stated that it is not acceptable for an attacker at a big club to miss so many easy chances.

These missed chances risk coming back to haunt Liverpool this season as they have now fallen behind Manchester City in the title race.

On Sunday, Liverpool fell to a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace after squandering a host of easy chances in the second half.

Nunez was partly responsible for the loss after he missed a sitter to equalise when he fired straight at goalkeeper Dean Henderson when it seemed easier to score.

Liverpool season falling away?

Liverpool also look set to go out of the Europa League after they lost 3-0 at home to Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final.

The consensus is that Liverpool overspent massively on Nunez, with his transfer fee rising to €100 million following his move from Benfica in 2022.

He has scored just 20 Premier League goals since joining, a total that is not enough to be a key forward for a club as big as Liverpool.

Liverpool are expected to go into the market for a top attacker this summer, although there is the chance that star man Mohamed Salah could be sold.
