Chelsea owner Todd Boehly made a clever move that will save the club a fortune going forward.
The Blues have spent remarkable sums of money on transfers since Boehly and co. took over in 2022.
This expenditure has not resulted in improved performance, however, with the West London club spending much of the past two seasons in mid table.

Boehly’s ability to run a football club has come into serious question as a result, but he has at least got something right.
That is because journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that all of Chelsea’s recent signings agreed to wage cuts should they not make the Champions League.
The Blues will lose a lot of revenue for not qualifying for Europe’s elite competition, which represents a huge problem, but at least the wage cuts will go some way to making up for it.

That being said, The Blues will still need to sell a plethora of players in the forthcoming transfer window.
Chelsea to sell plenty
Last summer, Chelsea offloaded 17 first-team players permanently and a similar number of players could depart in the upcoming window, according to football.london.
Among the players potentially getting the axe are Boehly-era signings Noni Madueke, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka and David Datro Fofana.
The likes of academy graduates Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja could be used to generate ‘pure profit,’ given that they did not cost a transfer fee.

Outcasts Romelu Lukaku, Malang Sarr, Ian Maatsen, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Hakim Ziyech are also expected to depart, with all of them except Sarr currently away from the club on loan.
Finally, veteran defender Thiago Silva will also likely leave, though he technically won’t be a sale as he is simply out of contract.
