Rodri sent off after two yellow cards in 54 SECONDS as Man City endure nightmare trip to Champions League minnows Bodo/Glimt

Manchester City‘s Champions League defeat at Bodo/Glimt went from bad to worse when lynchpin midfielder Rodri was sent off.

The City star was sent off in less than a minute of madness after picking up two yellow cards for tactical fouls.

The incidents came within 54 seconds of each other and with City trailing 3-1 in Norway, albeit having just scored to give themselves a glimmer of hope in this group-stage fixture.

Rodri was first booked on 61 minutes when he brought down Hakon Evjen on the halfway line with a trip.

From the resulting free-kick to Bodo/Glimt, City quickly regained possession and started their own attack. However, they lost possession down their left-hand side and with Ole Didrik Blomberg advancing, Rodri brough him down with a tug around the neck.

The Spaniard left referee Sven Jablonski with no choice but to show him a second yellow card inside a minute, despite his protestations.

Pep Guardiola was quick to complain to the linesman too but in truth the visitors could have no complaints.

Rodri’s booking halted any momentum City may have had after reducing the deficit to Bodo/Glimt.

City were trailing two-nil at half-time when Kasper Hogh scored two goals in two minutes. The first an unmarked header at the back post, the second a close-range finish with no one nearby.

Bodo/Glimt extended their lead when Jens Petter Hauge scored the goal of the evening with a brilliant strike into the top corner.

City pulled one back when Rayan Cherki’s low effort found the bottom on the hour-mark but that glimmer of hope was extinguished when Rodri was sent off just two minutes later.
