Romano reveals KEY detail about Sancho’s Chelsea loan move

Jadon Sancho accepted a wage cut to join Chelsea on loan from Manchester United this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The former England international left Old Trafford on Transfer Deadline Day, with Chelsea agreeing to sign him on a season-long loan deal.

Sancho spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Borussia Dortmund and despite suggestions that he could be reintegrated into the Man Utd squad, he was soon frozen out yet again by Erik ten Hag.

Juventus and Barcelona were both linked with a move for Sancho, but the 24-year-old pushed to join his boyhood club Chelsea instead.

The Blues even sent Raheem Sterling on loan to Arsenal to facilitate a move for Sancho, and the deal was completed in the early hours of 31 August.

Discussing the details of Sancho’s loan move, Romano told CaughtOffside: “Man Utd just wanted to move on from Sancho as they understood the player only wanted to leave.

“This is why they accepted this solution but still at their condition.

“So it all started from the player as he really wanted to join Chelsea, it was his priority, and it’s true that the player reduced his salary for this move, as it was the only way to make it happen.”

Jadon Sancho to join Chelsea permanently?

An obligation-to-buy clause was included in Sancho’s loan move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea required to sign the Englishman on a permanent deal for around €30 million if they finish inside the top 14 in the Premier League this season.

The Blues finished sixth last campaign and will have aspirations of qualifying for the Champions League this season – meaning it’s expected that Sancho’s move will become permanent next summer.

The ex-England star watched on from the stands as Chelsea drew 1-1 against Crystal Palace on Sunday, and he could make his Blues debut versus Bournemouth after the September international break.
