Newcastle set to bid for Romelu

Newcastle are surprise entrants in the race to sign forward Romelu Lukaku, as Chelsea prepare to sell the Belgium international in the January transfer window. Lukaku is currently linked with a return back to Inter Milan or Juventus, but currently plays on loan at AS Roma under manager Jose Mourinho.

However with a transfer kitty of close to £150 million for the January transfer window, manager Eddie Howe wants to bring in another striker and Lukaku is a shock target. Roma’s 10 goals for the club have made him an option for a permanent deal, but the club are unable to afford the supposed 40 million euro price tag for the burly striker.

Newcastle currently have Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson available in their striking ranks, but want to add further experience for next season and see Lukaku as the best available option.

No shortage of detractors over the years, Lukaku has had mixed spells all across Europe, including a dismal time at Manchester United. However, the 30-year-old striker does usually guarantee goals and that is what entices the Toon Army.
