Max Rosenfelder will miss Germany’s final clash against England at the U21 Euros after suffering an injury in the semi-final against France.
Germany had plenty to be pleased about after beating France 3-0 in Wednesday’s U21 European Championship semi-final to book their place in the final against England.
However, there was a setback for Antonio Di Salvo’s side as defender Max Rosenfelder picked up a muscle injury that will keep him out of the final.
According to German Football Association sporting director Rudi Völler, Rosenfelder will be sidelined for “several weeks,” making a return for the final impossible.
After coming off early, the 22-year-old Freiburg defender watched the remainder of the semi-final with his leg heavily bandaged and supported by crutches.
“It makes me sad to see him cry – it hurts,” said U21 head coach Antonio Di Salvo after the final whistle.
The final against England will take place on Saturday at 21:00 CEST.
