Roy Keane tells Alejandro Garnacho to celebrate scoring for Man United ‘or get a job somewhere else’ after star’s muted reaction to Leicester wonder goal after spat with YouTuber

Roy Keane has insisted Alejandro Garnacho should celebrate scoring goals for Manchester United after his subdued reaction to netting against Leicester City.

Garnacho helped Man United to seal a 3-0 win over the Foxes on Sunday, cutting inside before curling a fine effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

The 20-year-old gave a low key reaction to his effort, with captain Bruno Fernandes revealing post-match that the Argentine believes he has lost the backing of supporters.

‘Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans,’ Fernandes told the BBC. ‘I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do.

‘I told him to celebrate, it was something special. He is a special player and we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games.

‘We want them to score every game but that isn’t going to happen.’

Garnacho’s lack of celebration came after he had been engaged in a frosty exchange with a fan prior to the midweek Europa League game against PAOK.

The fan – who is known as YouTuber Planet Faz – told the Argentine he does not pass to team-mates enough and offered two other bits of advice.

He said: ‘Garnacho, you got to pass better today yeah, please. Pass better today, score a goal, and work on your first touch as well, yeah?’

After the winger finished meeting the other fans, he turned to Planet Faz, who is filming the encounter, and issued a brutal response.

‘Why are you not playing man?’ he asked, before striding away.

The YouTuber seemed to chuckle to himself before he said: ‘He did not like that, eh?’

And, former Man United captain Keane claimed there was something ‘drastically wrong with this game’ if players opt not to celebrate.

He claimed Garnacho should consider getting a job somewhere else, if he is not able to enjoy scoring for Man United.

‘If you can’t celebrate a goal, there is something drastically wrong with this game,’ said Keane, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

‘Whatever has gone on off the pitch for any player – it could be family stuff – you work all week, you’re playing the game to score a goal.

‘When you score a goal, there should be nothing else on your mind. You’ve got fans who have travelled, paid fortunes to get there, and he’s on about people having a go at him.

‘People make sacrifices to travel to watch Manchester United, he scores a brilliant goal, they are having a tough time – and if a younger player can’t enjoy scoring a goal for Man United, then get a job somewhere else.’

However, Garnacho’s lack of celebration was defended by Ian Wright, who suggested the 20-year-old attacker is ‘going through a journey’ in the game.

The former Arsenal star stressed Garnacho was likely impacted by the fan’s criticism and playing in anger.

Keane, however, suggested Garnacho should be able to separate the off-field pressure and be able to enjoy finding the back of the net for Man United,

‘He’s [Alejandro Garnacho] probably under pressure from outside sources,’ Keane added.

‘Every player is under pressure from family, for tickets, your performances, your fitness, your contract – there’s all sorts of pressures on players but for that moment, or for that weekend when you’ve scored a goal, you should be going, “Whatever happens for the rest of my life, if it finishes tonight, I’m going to enjoy this moment”.’

Garnacho is currently Man United’s top scorer this season with seven goals, three more than any other player.

The forward is now on international duty with Argentina, with the national team facing Paraguay and Peru in World Cup qualifiers during the international break.

Garnacho will return to a new era at Man United with Ruben Amorim having taken charge as head coach following his move from Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim takes over a Man United side lying 13th in the Premier League with just 15 points from their opening 11 matches.
