Ruben Amorim insists Manchester United can satisfy Bruno Fernandes’ ambitions, and has ruled out any chance of his captain leaving Old Trafford in the summer.
Fernandes is in the best form of his United career after scoring seven goals in seven games going into Tuesday’s visit to Nottingham Forest. The 30-year-old Portugal star has now scored 16 times this season and added 15 assists.
It sparked speculation at the weekend over a potential £90million move to Real Madrid as United face the prospect of having to sell players to fund new signings.
But Amorim moved swiftly to kill any transfer talk, saying: ‘It’s not going to happen. This is the kind of player that we want and he’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him!
‘He’s 30 but he’s still so young because he plays 55 games every season, and between assists and goals he’s there for 30 at least. He’s the type of player we want here.’
Fernandes admitted he wanted to be assured that United’s ambitions matched his own before signing a new contract until June 2027 last year.

The Portuguese says his compatriot is ‘really happy’ at Old Trafford despite United’s struggles
The ex-Sporting Lisbon player’s critics also point to his negative body language on the pitch as a sign that he is growing frustrated at United.
But Amorim added: ‘That is the challenge. We want to win the Premier League again so we want the best players to continue with us.
‘We are in control of the situation. I feel that he is really happy here especially because he understands what we want to do, and then I think he is one more supporter of Man United. He really feels it.
‘Sometimes the frustration that you see, that everybody sees and maybe says is not a good thing in a captain, it’s a sign that he wants this so bad.’
Amorim was reluctant to be drawn over the possibility of Marcus Rashford being given a second chance under him after the 27-year-old played in new England boss Thomas Tuchel’s opening games against Albania and Latvia during the international break and scored his first goals on loan at Aston Villa in Saturday’s FA Cup win at Preston.
Villa have the option to buy Rashford for £40m at the end of the season, and Amorim said: ‘I’m planning for the future, but I don’t want to talk about the future in this moment.
‘I know Rashford really well and everybody knows the talent he has. He’s a top player – if he wants.’
