Ruben Amorim breaks his silence on Man United’s £62.5m move for Matheus Cunha – and reveals he has already decided who will leave this summer

Ruben Amorim claims that ‘every player wants to play for Manchester United’ as he lines up his transfer targets this summer, but he refused to be drawn on a £62.5million move for Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

Amorim also said he has just about decided who will be leaving Old Trafford this summer, but cited Casemiro as an example of a player who could yet persuade him to change his mind.

Mail Sport revealed that United are close to agreeing terms with Cunha. Asked about triggering the Brazilian’s release clause at Wolves, Amorim said: ‘I will not say nothing about Matheus, because if I say one time I will have to say it about any situation that is yes or no.’

On the issue of attracting new players with United in 14th place in the table and in danger of finishing fourth from bottom, Amorim added: ‘It’s Manchester United. What I feel is there are a lot of players that want to play for our club.

‘If you look at our club in the moment with all the problems, staff leaving and changing coach, it looks a little bit of a problem. But we have a clear idea and that’s the easiest part to explain for a player. It’s Manchester and every player wants to play for Manchester United.’

Amorim admitted that he is coming to the end of the process of deciding which players to offload this summer. ‘Yeah, I could say that,’ he said. ‘Of course this is a conversation for the end of the week but I have an idea. Things can change until the end of the season.

Amorim went on to reveal that he has ‘an idea’ of which United players will leave this summer

‘Everything can happen. Casemiro is the best example. He wasn’t playing and then you see the last games he’s having a part, he’s performing quite well, he’s playing all the time. I like to change my mind. If they change my mind I like that, I want to put the best players in my team.

‘We have to focus on this season. The way we prepare for next season could change in these games. It’s difficult to predict what can happen in the future.’
