Ruben Amorim insists that he will not resign as Manchester United head coach, but he has hinted that he will leave when his current contract expires in 2027.

The Red Devils boss has been under continuous pressure since his arrival from Sporting CP as the club’s permanent replacement for Erik ten Hag, and rumours of a departure remain rife.

Amorim’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United on Sunday afternoon and they missed out on the chance to enter the top four in the Premier League table in the process.

Despite a fairly encouraging first half of the new English top flight season, Amorim continues to be linked with an Old Trafford exit, although he is determined to remain with the 13-time Premier League champions until his deal expires next summer.

The Man Utd boss was in an aggravated mood following the aforementioned draw against Leeds and he dropped a cryptic exit hint during his post-match press conference.

What has Ruben Amorim said?

“I just want to say I’m going to be the manager of this team, not just the Head Coach, and I was really clear on that. That is going to finish in 18 months and everyone’s going to move on,” Amorim told reporters.

“That was the deal, that was my job, not to be the coach. If people can’t handle the Gary Neville’s or any other criticism, we need to change the club.”

Amorim added: “Guys, I noticed that you received selective information about everything. I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach. I know my name is not [Antonio] Conte, [Thomas] Tuchel, or [Jose] Mourinho but I’m the manager of Manchester United.

“It’s going to be like this for 18 months or until the board decide to change. I’m not going to quit. I’ll do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”
