In a surprise move, Manchester United striker Rashford revealed on Tuesday that he could be seeking a transfer away from the club.

The striker was left out of the Red Devils’ squad to face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, with Amorim indicating that it was small details that prevented the England ace from making his panel.

The 27-year-old subsequently told Henry Winter: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”

Amorim: Man Utd need Rashford

While this has been interpreted as Rashford seeking a move away from the club, it appears that Amorim has not written the striker’s goodbye note yet.

“I think he’s right, we have here a new challenge. It’s a tough one. For me it’s the biggest challenge in football,” Amorim said.

“This kind of club needs big talent and he is a big talent. He just needs to perform at the highest level.”

The head coach also revealed that he has yet to speak to the striker following the publication of the comments on X.

“We gave the lads a day off,” he said. “He’s out player and he’s ready for the next game.”

What’s going to happen?

Rashford appears to have a more definite thought in his head.

He also said: “When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

These comments have been interpreted as coming from a player who feels that his time at the club is up.

While a January transfer appears difficult to manufacture because of the costs involved, a loan has not been ruled out, with Chelsea emerging as a surprise candidate to sign him in the wake of Mykhailo Mudryk’s suspension from football due to a failed drugs test. Rashford would prefer a move to Spain.
