Ruben Amorim WON’T be able to start work as Manchester United manager tomorrow due to work permit issues

Ruben Amorim will arrive in England on Monday but won’t be able to start work as Manchester United’s new head coach until he has been granted a work permit.

Amorim will travel to Manchester after overseeing his last game as Sporting boss against Braga on Sunday evening. 

However, the 39-year-old Portuguese is still waiting for the paperwork to be processed, so can’t start officially begin his new job or ‘get his feet on the grass’ according to United sources.

Most of the players will be away on international duty anyway, with Amorim’s first game not for another two weeks against Ipswich at Portman Road on November 24.

He will not be unveiled to the media until his pre-match press conference for that game, although he is expected to speak to United’s in-house TV station before then.

Amorim will be unable to lead training sessions at Carrington while waiting for his visa

The club are keen for Amorim to settle in England as quickly as possible and find somewhere to live during the international break.

He is said to be keen to bring five of his back-room staff to Old Trafford from Sporting, which has cast the future of United’s coaching staff – including Ruud van Nistelrooy who completed his four-match stint as interim boss with another win against Leicester on Sunday.

‘This block of four games, it felt like a closure and the future is open,’ said Van Nistelrooy.

‘I appreciated the clear communication of the club. It was an interim spell for a short-term. They kept me in the loop. It was four games, and for me it was important to have that clarity.

‘The communication was after the block of four, there will be communication towards you and your colleagues. 

‘The most important thing is the football club. I am here to support that, and I want to continue that.’

United sources stressed that there hasn’t been any setback in Amorim’s appointment and that, as with new signings, it is the usual process to have to arrive in the UK before obtaining a visa.
