Over the summer, Bayern Munich missed out on two of their top targets, as Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade opted to move to Liverpool FC and Newcastle United, respectively.

In an interview with Sport Bild, Bayern supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reflected on losing out on the two German stars.

“I have to be honest, in the case of Florian Wirtz, I still feel sorry, because I believe the player would have been better off at Bayern Munich than at Liverpool,” Rummenigge said.

“We certainly could have signed Woltemade. But I also have to say: Bayern Munich are wise not to take part in every financial madness. I have always said: we want sporting success, but in a serious and financially sound way.

“We have a top team. Again this year. And when the three currently injured players (Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, editor’s note) return soon, we will have a fantastic squad.”
