Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have expanded investment into football purchasing a stake Mexican side Club Necaxa.

The Hollywood duo shocked the sporting world when they completed a deal to take over National League club Wrexham in February 2021.

With the benefit of significant investment, The Dragons have since achieved huge success both on and off the pitch, recently confirming back-to-back promotions under the stewardship of manager Phil Parkinson.

The Welcome To Wrexham documentary has also proven to be a massive hit attracting a legion of international supporters to the Racecourse Ground club with Reynolds and McElhenney featuring prominently.

According to a report from Variety, the duo have invested in Necaxa with a view to grow the club’s stature internationally in a time of high demand for sports-related streaming content.

Club Necaxa are currently ninth of in the top flight of Mexican football and have previously won three league titles

The pair join American actor and producer Eva Longoria among the Liga MX club’s celebrity investor contingent.

MLB pitcher Justin Verlander, Baltimore Ravens star Odell Beckham Jr and model Kate Upton also are minority investors in the club.

Founded by Scotsman William H. Fraser in 1923, Necaxa have enjoyed a storied history, having won the Mexican Cup eight times.

The club’s most successful period came during the 1990s, winning three league titles and lifting the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2009.
