Rodrygo has decided to leave Real Madrid this summer, with the club only having one way to change the Brazilian’s mind over his future.
The 24-year-old has struggled to build on his impressive campaign last season and is currently in a bad run of form, with just one goal and one assist in his last 22 games.
The decline in his performances at Real has led to Rodrygo considering his future, according to Radio MARCA, who claim that the forward is ‘saddened’ after seeing his dream of success at Real fall short.
Rodrygo’s failure to finish in the top 20 of the Ballon d’Or voting was said to be the first turning point over Christmas, and he has now realised that the focus on Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham at Real is proving difficult to flourish within.
While Rodrygo is said to still admire his teammates, he believes their playstyle clashes with his own, which has led to him failing to find a true role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
However, with Ancelotti set to depart in the summer, it is believed that only an ‘express request’ from his potential successor in Xabi Alonso will convince Rodrygo to stay, with the winger otherwise ready to leave Real this summer.
Man City among sides interested in Rodrygo
The development in Rodrygo’s future echoes what The Transfers Podcast heard last month, with host Duncan Castles revealing that Manchester City had made a €90 million approach for the Real star last summer.
Speaking on a previous episode of The Transfers Podcast, Castles said: “Rodrygo is also a player we should pay attention to in the market because, if Vinicius does renew his contract, then Madrid will look to place Rodrigo in the market again, and there is lots of interest in him.
“There was significant interest in Rodrygo from Manchester City last summer and plenty of other interest in in Europe for a player who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €96m in SciSports analytics.
“I think that’s a pretty realistic assessment of what Madrid would ask for should they decide to go down that line in the summer.”
