Mohamed Salah is set to complete a major U-turn and sign a new contract with Liverpool, rejecting eight other clubs that tried unsuccessfully to prise him away from Anfield.

Salah said that he was “more out than in” at Anfield a matter of weeks ago, with these bombshell comments leading many to believe that he was finally on his way out of the Reds after eight successful seasons with the club.

Now the 32-year-old appears close to signing a new contract with Arne Slot’s side – and it’s not been for the want of offers from elsewhere.

Who wanted to sign Salah?

Salah has knocked back eight other clubs to remain with the Anfield outfit, Fichajes reports.

There was interest from European giants Barcelona and Juventus, the report states, while there was also a desire in the Arab world to bring Salah to that region to play club football for the first time in his career.

Saudi Pro League sides Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli all chased the attacker, while Egyptian club Zamalek are also said to have enquired about taking him home in what would have been an audacious move.

The other named club is Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, though quite how they would have juggled Salah with their existing stars and still stayed under the league’ salary cap is unclear.

The Premier League’s best

At 32, Salah remains at the height of his powers as one of the greatest footballers in the game, with the winger having scored 16 goals and created 13 more as he has led Liverpool’s charge to the top of the Premier League.

He has a goal or an assist in each of the last eight league matches he has played, making him the standout player in England’s top-flight this season.

While Salah had been tipped to leave for the Saudi Pro League in the summer, it now appears that he will remain with the Reds for at least one more season – great news for Liverpool fans but bad news for everyone else.
