Sancho BOMBSHELL: Ornstein confirms Chelsea’s penalty fee

Chelsea will reportedly be required to pay Manchester United a penalty fee of €6 million (£5m) if they decide against signing Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal this summer.

The former England international moved to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan deal in August, with Chelsea including an obligation to purchase him for €30m in 2025.

However, recent reports have speculated that Chelsea have the option to break this agreement if they agree to pay Man Utd a penalty fee.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now confirmed that Chelsea will need to pay a fixed fee of €6m in order to cancel Sancho’s permanent move to the club.

The Blues are, however, expected to sign Sancho this summer, despite his patchy recent form.

The 24-year-old started promisingly upon his arrival in west London, although he is without a goal contribution in his last 13 appearances and Chelsea are actively searching for a new right-footed winger ahead of the summer window.

Jadon Sancho wants to stay at Chelsea

Sancho remains extremely happy at Chelsea, following a dismal spell at Man Utd, and the club are expected to sign him permanently once the 2024-25 campaign concludes.

After the Blues’ win over Leicester City in early March, Sancho was eager to heap praise on Enzo Maresca and the environment he has created at Stamford Bridge.

“We believe in the manager,” Sancho told the club’s official website.

“He tells us what to do next and we just adapt. He makes us feel at home and it’s not easy for players to say that! We’ve grown into one big family and I’m really delighted that I’m here, playing football here.

“The lads are very good and every day is a fun day.”

Sancho added: “We are a young team, but there is a lot of experience in the team. When people say we’re young, I look at it as an excuse. Some guys have played over 100 games so I feel like we’re more than ready and more than capable to go out there and show our best.”
