Speculation has intensified over Sancho’s future in recent days after reports that Chelsea could pay a £5 million fee to back out of their £25m obligation to permanently sign the United winger this summer.

However, numerous reports have since claimed that Chelsea are still expected to honour their agreement to sign Sancho despite an underwhelming loan spell thusfar.

While such news will come as a relief to Man Utd, who are keen to get his wages permanently off their books, Chelsea could be rocked by Sancho’s preference to return to former club Dortmund for a third spell.

That is according to German outlet BILD who claim that Sancho has never lost contact with ‘his old love’ and that his desire to return to the Bundesliga is ‘growing daily.

The report goes on to say that Dortmund is considered a ‘dream destination’ for Sancho and that the 25-year-old has already ‘expressed his desire to return’ to his agent, with Bayer Leverkusen also monitoring the situation.

United not willing to keep Sancho at any cost

Despite starting his time at Chelsea with three assists in his first three appearances, Sancho has provided just three goal contributions in 25 games since, raising doubts over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were already looking to pursue a right-footed winger after trying to sign Man Utd’s Alejandro Garnacho in January, with Mykhailo Mudryk potentially facing a long-term ban due to a drugs violation.

Having already agreed to sign the likes of Estevao, Kendry Paez and Geovany Quenda over the next year, Chelsea could find themselves overloaded with wide players, leading to reports that Sancho could be sent back to Old Trafford at the end of his loan spell despite the deal being described as an ‘obligation to buy’ when he joined the Blues last summer.

United would not welcome Sancho’s return and, although Amorim would be given the final say over the winger’s future at the club, the Red Devils would still push for his permanent exit in any situation.
