Sandro Tonali was pictured in the stands at St. James’ Park for the first time since he received his 10-month ban.
The Italian midfielder was banned from competitive football last week after admitting to illegal gambling offences, and will receive treatment for a ‘gambling addiction’ as part of the measures.
Despite still be able to train with Newcastle, Tonali cannot be selected for competitive matches and was forced to watch from the stands as Newcastle hosted Arsenal.
Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth revealed his ‘massive shock’ at Tonali’s betting breaches saga and confirmed the club are internally investigating the transfer.
Tonali joined Newcastle from Serie A giants AC Milan in the summer, for £55m fee, but will be ruled out for the remainder of the season in a blow to manager Eddie Howe‘s season aspirations.

The 23-year-old had a mixed start to his Newcastle career before receiving the ban, but did show flashes of quality.
He will undoubtedly feel the frustration of watching on from the sidelines, but will be lifted by the Magpies earning a 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
Mail Sport exclusively revealed on Friday the Football Association are now investigating whether Tonali also broke betting rules after his £52million move to Newcastle in July, meaning he could be hit with another ban.
Tonali has admitted he is a gambling addict, and the FA are looking at whether any offences were committed in England.
His initial ban was handed out from the Italian Football Federation after an investigation into Tonali and fellow Italian players Nicolo Fagioli and Nicolo Zaniolo.
For now however, it is confirmed Tonali will only be on the sidelines come Newcastle matchday, with the midfielder allowed to train with the squad.
