Savicevic: ‘AC Milan need a striker in Serie A title race’

Milan legend Dejan Savicevic insists his former club need a centre-forward to keep Scudetto hopes alive in 2026: ‘Vlahovic has suffered a severe injury, they need a striker who is ready to play.’

Former Milan star Savicevic feels the Rossoneri need to sign a striker in the winter transfer window to be competitive in the race for the title this season.

Milan have already shown significant improvement from last season, as they’ve claimed the top of the Serie A standings after 13 rounds, level on 28 points with Napoli.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men were eliminated from the Coppa Italia Round of 16 on Thursday, so they only have Serie A left to play for this season.

Savicevic: Milan need Leao to play as a central striker

Leao has been used as a centre-forward in 2025-26, but Savicevic believes the Portuguese’s natural role is elsewhere.

“Allegri has played him as a centre-forward, but his role is on the left flank. However, he must be put at the team’s service and right now Milan need him as a central striker,” he told TMW.

Football Italia understands Milan might sign a new centre-forward next month, even if Santiago Gimenez refuses to leave the club.

Dusan Vlahovic was linked with a move to San Siro last summer, but underwent surgery on Thursday and won’t return until March 2026, so he wouldn’t be eligible if he were to join the Rossoneri next month.

Savicevic on Vlahovic joining Milan: ‘Perhaps from June’

“Not now, because he has suffered a severe injury and Milan need a striker in the race for the title. Perhaps, from June,” said Savicevic.

“Now Milan need a striker who is ready to play.”

Another transfer talking point in Milanello concerns the future of Mike Maignan, whose contract runs out in June 2026.

“It all depends on him, he has already proved to be an exceptional goalkeeper, and I’d like him to stay at Milan,” concluded Savicevic.

“It’s up to the management and his desire to stay.”
