Schlotterbeck’s existing deal runs until 2027, but both parties have reportedly agreed on an extension ahead of his recovery from a knee injury.

The 25-year-old Germany international chose surgery to repair a torn meniscus, a procedure that will sideline him for several months but is expected to leave his knee more robust in the long term.

Before the setback, he had made 23 appearances across all competitions, contributing four assists from centre back.

Dortmund’s hierarchy view Schlotterbeck as a future captain and key pillar of their defence. The new deal is set to include a substantial pay rise, with his salary potentially increasing to €10 million per season. The formal signing is likely to take place after the season concludes, once he begins his rehabilitation programme.
