Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Gerardo Seoane has declared the battle for the club’s No. 1 spot completely open.

Jonas Omlin and Moritz Nicolas are once again battling for the starting goalkeeper role at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Nicolas secured the No. 1 role last season, but then suffered a long-term injury, allowing Omlin to take over for the latter part of the campaign.

Now fully recovered, Nicolas is not guaranteed a starting place in the new campaign, as the competition between him and Omlin remains fierce.

“Nothing has been decided yet,” Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Gerardo Seoane told Bild.

“We told the players: we want real competition in every position. It’s a fresh start for everyone,” he added.

In their recent 2-0 friendly victory over 1. FC Nürnberg, Omlin played the first 45 minutes, while Nicolas came on for the second half.
